Chocolate Toffee Bars with Nuts
Ingredients:
For the Toffee (Caramel Layer):
• 1 cup unsalted butter
• 1 cup brown sugar
• 1/4 cup corn syrup
• 1/4 cup sweetened condensed milk
• 1/2 teaspoon salt
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Layers:
• 2 cups graham crackers or digestive biscuits, crushed
• 1/2 cup melted butter
• 1/4 cup brown sugar
• 1 1/2 cups dark or milk chocolate, chopped or chocolate chips
• 1 cup roasted nuts (walnuts, almonds, or pecans), chopped
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Base:
• Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
• Mix the crushed biscuits with melted butter and brown sugar until well combined.
• Press the mixture firmly into a greased baking dish.
• Bake for 10 minutes, then set aside to cool.
2. Make the Toffee:
• In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter.
• Add brown sugar, corn syrup, sweetened condensed milk, and salt. Stir continuously until it comes to a boil.
• Reduce heat and let it simmer for 5-7 minutes until it turns a deep golden color.
• Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
3. Assemble the Layers:
• Pour the hot toffee over the baked biscuit base, spreading it evenly.
• Let it cool slightly, then sprinkle chopped chocolate over the top.
• Allow the chocolate to melt, then spread it evenly with a spatula.
• Sprinkle chopped nuts over the melted chocolate.
4. Chill and Serve:
• Refrigerate for at least 2 hours until set.
• Cut into bars and enjoy!
