Simple Cherry Dessert Bars

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 3/4 cups white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 large eggs
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 (21 ounce) can cherry pie filling
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 2 tablespoons milk

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 10×15-inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the vanilla and eggs one at a time.
  3. Gradually add the flour and salt to the creamed mixture until well combined.
  4. Spread 3 cups of batter in the prepared pan. Spread the cherry pie filling over the batter. Drop the remaining batter by spoonfuls over the cherry layer.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. In a small bowl, combine the powdered sugar, almond extract, and milk to make the glaze. Drizzle over the cooled bars before cutting into squares.
