- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup white sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder

- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and diced
- 3/4 cup dried cranberries
- 1 tablespoon orange zest
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1 tablespoon white sugar, or as needed
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, 1/4 cup sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Cut in the butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in the dried cranberries and orange zest.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, egg, and vanilla extract. Pour into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently a few times. Pat the dough into a 1-inch thick circle.
- Cut the dough into 8 wedges and place on the prepared baking sheet. Brush the tops with milk and sprinkle with 1 tablespoon sugar.
- Bake in the preheated oven until the scones are golden brown, about 15-20 minutes. Serve warm.
